K1NU consulting - Terrain and Signal Analysis

Unsure how to explain to the ZBA why you need your antenna support structure to be 90', not 80' ? Or what 'that hill' 500' away will do to your crushing 20m signal into Europe?

YT, a terrain analysis program provided with the ARRL Antenna Book, is great for doing such studies. Performing a YT analysis requires a terrain profile, which you can create from the USGS topo map for your QTH. Then the output from YT can be used to calculate overall gain comparisons between antennas.

My standard terrain analysis for your QTH includes:
- developing your terrain profile for 3 compass headings of your choice
- computing YT analyses for these 3 directions for two desired antenna/height combinations (an A/B study) and resulting overall gain comparisons.
- preparing a comparative report suitable for dissemination.
